چکیده
Adjusting a vessel's trim and draught to enhance resistance characteristics is promising strategy improve the energy efficiency of maritime transport. However, vast majority scientific effort has been directed at such gains in deep, unrestricted waters. Shallow confined waters modify flow pressure distribution around ship, altering considerably curve. This study aims elucidate increase effects on ship's while advancing through restricted waterway using Computational Fluid Dynamics. The results show that increasing benchmark hull magnifies hydrodynamic by approximately 10% 15% depending ship speed. added may be compensated adjusting vessels’ trim, but ability compensate sensitive At low speeds, numerical model predicts due higher can reduced varying angle leaving total 0.87% than design zero condition. On other hand, speeds offer greater potential for reduction trim.

Environmental issues and rising fuel prices necessitate better energy efficiency in all sectors. Shipping industry is a stakeholder in environmental issues. Shipping industry is responsible for approximately 3% of global CO₂ emissions, 14-15% of global NO(X) emissions, and 16% of global SO(X) emissions. Ship trim optimization has gained enormous momentum in recent years being an effective opera...
متن کاملNonlinear ship waves and computational fluid dynamics
Research works undertaken in the first author's laboratory at the University of Tokyo over the past 30 years are highlighted. Finding of the occurrence of nonlinear waves (named Free-Surface Shock Waves) in the vicinity of a ship advancing at constant speed provided the start-line for the progress of innovative technologies in the ship hull-form design. Based on these findings, a multitude of t...
متن کاملComputational fluid dynamics simulations of ship airwake
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of ship airwakes are discussed in this article. CFD is used to simulate the airwakes of landing helicopter assault (LHA) and landing platform dock-17 (LPD-17) classes of ships. The focus is on capturing the massively separated flow from sharp edges of blunt bodies, while ignoring the viscous effects. A parallel, finitevolume flow solver is used wit...

This work extends the previous effort in unsteady Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations developed by the ship hydrodynamics group of the University of Iowa Iowa Institute of Hydraulic Research to the capability to predict pitch and heave motions of ships with forward speed in regular head seas. The simulations are performed with CFDSHIP-IOWA, which is a general-purpose, multiblock,...
